This year’s math units will be as follows:

  • 1st Nine Weeks:
    • Place Value (Whole Numbers) – Starting on 8/24/2016
      • Reading and Writing Numbers (standard form, expanded notation, word form) to the billions
      • Understanding the place to the right is 1/10th of the place to the left, and the place to the left is 10 times the place to the right
      • Comparing and Ordering Numbers
      • Rounding Numbers
    • Place Value (Decimals)
    • Addition and Subtraction
  • 2nd Nine Weeks:
    • Multiplication Strategies
      • Multiplying by 10’s, 100’s, and 1000’s
      • Estimating Products
      • Various Strategies to multiply up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number (Distributive Property, Traditional, Partial Products)
      • Various Strategies to multiply a 2-digit number by a 2-digit number (Partial Products, Lattice Method, Traditional)
    • Division Strategies
      • Dividing by 10’s, 100’s, and 1000’s
      • Estimating Quotients
      • Various Strategies to divide up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number (Repeated Subtraction, Partial Quotients, Traditional Algorithm)
    • Fraction Concepts
      • Compare Fractions
      • Add and Subtract Fractions
      • Create Equivalent Fractions
      • Simplify Fractions
      • Decompose a fraction to a sum of unit fractions
  • 3rd Nine Weeks: Algebraic Reasoning, Geometry & Measurement
  • 4th Nine Weeks: Geometry & Measurement Continued, Data Analysis, Personal Financial Literacy
