As a native of San Antonio, Ms. Payne grew up spending many weekends on a local air force base. After graduating from high school, she moved to Atlanta to pursue a Business Administration degree at Oglethorpe University. She spent several years working on websites in various corporations and later freelance photographing weddings and portraits before deciding to really make a difference in the lives of young people. At that point, she moved to Washington, DC to pursue her Masters in Education, and then launched her teaching career. Over the last five years, she has worked with elementary students to make their learning relevant, engaging, and meaningful. Having taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade, she enjoys teaching math and really helping students build a solid foundation that will bring them success in middle school, high school, and beyond. She hopes to bring her wealth of experiences into the classroom in order to help youth see their potential, realize academic success, and make positive choices concerning their futures!
Over the past 5 years, Ms. Payne has fostered significant growth in her students in the areas of mathematical procedures, writing, and reading fluency. She not only uses data to drive instruction, but she also implements strategies to challenge advanced students.
